K. R. VENUGOPAL IAS (RETD)

FORMERLY SECRETARY TO THE PRIME MINISTER AND

SPECIAL RAPPORTEUR, NHRC

My Dear Jayaprakash,

I have already written to you per e-mail expressing my outrage about the incidents of the 17th February 2011 at the A.P. Legislature. I send herewith a copy of my letter of the 18th February 2011 to the Editor, Deccan Chronicle to let you know that my support for your right to your opinion and violence-free politics is a public one and not merely a private belief.

With my Regards,

K.R.Venugopal.

"Sir,

I write this to express my condemnation of the way political differences are sought to be resolved by resort to violence and say that that is undemocratic. I join the thousands, who have expressed their dismay of the physical attack against Dr. Jayaprakash Narayan and Mr. Paladagu Venkata Rao.  The refusal to even lodge a complaint in this matter speaks volumes of the way Jayaprakash is trying to bring in new values in politics.

K. R. Venugopal."

Dear Sri Jayaprakashji,

Iam deeply hurt to hear about the  unfortunate incident yesterday in the Hon. House. I condemn the  physical attack  on a  sincere and honest person  like you. This incident, especially the visuals in  electronic media  did hurt the feelings and moved lakhs  of  democracy loving people across the state and nation as well. I totally  agree with your feelings expressed after the incident.

I wish  such incidents  do not occur again.

Yours sincerely,

Respected JP garu,

We, millions of your fan, were startled and upset about the incidents that took place recently in the assembly.  We feel that it is a stigma to democracy but not to any individual.

But I am confident that these petty incidents will not shatter people like you who truly believe in Gandhiasm.  As I hailed from Chirala and seen you and listened to you many times since my childhood, I admire your arguments/vision cogently presented based on Policies rather people.

We all know that , as you said, "Seperate State is not sole medicine for all diseases and demand for seperate state is not unfair".  In fact you people are fighting for even more decentralisation of power like strengthening of local bodies.

Sir,  we urge you once again , not to leave your spirit which is guiding, inspiring and which created indelible motivation to many young men of this country.

We once again reiterate that WE ARE ALL WITH YOU  AND READY TO WORK FOR BETTERMENT OF THIS COUNTRY.

Best Regards

Dear JP garu,

we have seen on the TV screen what happened on thursday in the Assembly premises. We could not believe our own eyes. Physical violence is the expression of frustration of the mentally weak. The attack on you was the grossest violation of democracy and the vilest attempt to silence the voice of freedom. We condemn it.

One is reminded of Francis Bucon's statement that politics is the last resort of a scoundrel. Are our politicians such scoundrels as to degrade themselves to such mean levels?

In our eyes, you are not a mere politician, you are a statesman. We admire the patience, courage, and equanimity with which you have handled the situation. We pray God to bless you with the intellectual acumen and practical wisdom to serve the nation and the people for  very long time to come. We stand by you.

With best wishes,

Telugu Lalitha Kala Samithi's President Mr. Madineni Yangiah Chowdhary and various organisations in Kuwait criticised and condemned incidents of attack on Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan and Lok Satta Party president Jayaprakash Narayan on Thursday 17th Febraury, 2011.

Telugu Lalitha Kala Samithi and JP's admirers and followers were shocked of the incident. This is really a black day. The act is undemocratic ugly manner. We condemn their behaviour those who were involved, as they have no respect for the Constitution and the democratic Instituions created under its provisions.

The following JP's well wishers also condemned the attack on Dr. Jayaprakash Narayan are Mr. Ravi Kumar Reddy, Mr. Babu Naidu, Mr. Damodar Naidu, Mr. Muddapolu Suresh Babu, Mr. Ashok Kumar, Mr. Josef, Mr. Sreedhar Babu, Mr. Ramakrishna Sharma, Mrs. Sujatha, Mrs. Kala Devi, Mrs. Suneetha, Mr. Krishna, Mr. Satihs Kumar, Mr. Anil, Mr. Praveen.

Regret to say that I do not support the magnanimity of Hon. JP in not making any complaint on the yesterdays  happenings in the assembly and at its premises  .  It dilutes the affect of JP's stand that  ‘the silence of good people is more dangerous than the evil acts of bad people'. The attitude of TRS party men and some others  preventing  the Governors speech in the assembly and  manhandling MLA of Lok Satta party is highly uncivilized and unconstitutional . When the Hon. Governor could not deliver his 15 mts speech in the Assembly and when an MLA could not express his opinion freely then where exists the freedom of speech of a common man in this country and state! Hence I request Sri JP to demand for stringent action against the offenders

Dear JP Garu,

Good Morning.

You were like a hero personality when you worked as the District Collector of Prakasm District.  I was studying in High School at that time in Chirala.  I always adore you as a great human being with values.

I was so upset with yesterday's incident.  As a citizen of India, I totally agree with your feelings on yesterday's happenings in the Assembly.  Certain politicians, though they are educated have no values, as their intension is only making or minting money.  Such people will never know / understand what you speak, because you speak from your heart with intelligence and knowledge.  Mere education will not give all these qualities to anybody.  The attack on you is totally unethical.  I was choked when I saw those media clippings.

Kudos to your courage and broadmindedness in not complaining on anyone.  You are ever inspiring.

You are truely the  "Change Maker".

I am glad to know that you are going to grace the Administrative Professionals Week of Indian Association of Secretaries and Administrative Professionals (IASAP) as Chief Guest.  I am on the MC of IASAP as Hon.Secretary.

Looking forward to meeting you in person.

With warm regards,

Dear Sir,

It is indeed shocking that the politicks in AP  have reached so low that the Telugus bend their heads in shame and anguish. There is alround condemnation of the sordid incidents in the Assembly within and in its premises.  Sri JP has exhibited great quality in not retalitating the goons.  People in the country came in support of Sri JP and the goons have lost their ground and put to shame.  May I suggest that silent sitting in front of the statue of Mahathma may be held to mould public opinion against such vandalism.  We are with Sri JP in fighting against the evil forces through non-violent methods and peaceful methods.

Strongly condemning the attack on N Jayaprakash Narayan by TRS MLAs in the assembly premises, the Aacay Organization today said it will hold a peaceful online protests over the issue.

"This attack on Jayaprakash Narayan, who has been fighting for clean politics, in the assembly premises is barbaric. It is a black day in the history of independent India. This is an insult not only to Jayaprakash Narayan but to the democracy and freedom fighters of India".

This is not an issue of a particular region, religion or caste. All democratic-minded people should condemn such attack.

Dear JP

I do not normally watch TV these days as a I get

my news from my internet browsing with morning

coffee.

I switched on the TV this morning to catch up with

news on World Cup. And, what do I see! I saw

everything that happened. I listened to every word

that you said. And, I am proud the way that you

stood up to the occasion. And, you put things,

incl Churchill's saying, in a way that warmed my

heart even if what you said made me feel very,

very sad.

I do not know whether I had occasion to mention to

you - my father was a freedom fighter, went to

jail thrice, ruined his health and died very young

when I was just three and my younger brother just

six months old. My mother, who brought us up, 94,

still proudly draws her freedom fighters pension.

I am with you all the way. Pl call me whenever,

and for whatever help, you need.

Rao V.B.J. Chelikani

What shall we do in the present political context in our State?

Physical violence and other expressions of intimidation punishable under the provisons of our Penal code are being faced by many free citizens who are not involved in politics also. There is a clear and evident failure of the government machinery to protect free circulation and right to speech and opinion.of the citizens in Andhra Pradesh. It tantmounts to threat to life. Under these circumstances, we have no other option than to turn to the governor to protect our human, fundamental and constitutional rights.

Dear JP Garu:

Ashamed to watch what happened today in the Assembly precincts. Elated to observe your reaction and analysis following the incident.

The reactionary elements may show up, at times, to be taking upper hand, but, ultimate victory is going to be that of the progressive forces. If anything, these unfortunate things will only remind the need to further strengthen the struggle for achieving the true democracy in the country.
